PENCILS2MEDIAMOGULS
Send a message to the moguls running the media conglomerates and let them know you stand behind the writers. That message? A box of pencils.
Many fans and fan groups were suggesting we send something in to the AMPTP companies to physically demonstrate our concerns, and pencils were chosen as a simple and direct symbol. UnitedHollywood.com stepped up and organized this to make it easier for fans to participate, and pencils will be shipped in bulk for greater impact. Just use the link to the right to order a box (or boxes) of pencils and make your voice heard.
You can also "dedicate" a box of pencils to your favorite show or writer to let the AMPTP know just what you're fighting for.
All profits, if any, will go to the Union Solidarity Fund, which was created to help non-WGA members affected by the strike. You can find more details about the campaign at UnitedHollywood.com.
Several showrunners are offering incentives for their fans to order more pencils. For every box you order and dedicate to the following shows/writers, you'll be entered into an e-raffle to win:
Army Wives - Winner gets a phone call and an autographed photo from Kim Delaney (Claudia Joy Holden) or Drew Fuller personally thanking them for their support of the cause and the show. Be sure to specify either Kim or Drew in your dedication. Details.
Battlestar Galactica - BSG is going all out for pencil incentives. So far:
- The Chief himself, Aaron Douglas, will take one fan to a Canucks hockey game or, if you can't get to Vancouver, will make a personal phone call and send a piece of signed memorabilia to the winner. Enter "BSG Aaron Douglas" when you order. Details.
- Mary McDonnell, Tricia Helfer, Michael Hogan, and Michael Trucco have all agreed to make a personal phone call to fans who win the raffles in their names. Details.
- Jamie Bamber is offering three screen-worn towels. The first two will go to the fans who buy the most pencils in Jamie’s name, while the third will be raffled off at random. Details.
Criminal Minds - NEW! Get a call from Executive Producer Ed Bernero, actor Joe Mantegna or actor Thomas Gibson by writing in "Criminal Minds" as your pencil dedication. Winners will get a call and an autographed script. More stars may be added, according to Bernero. Details.
Eureka - Get a call from Colin Ferguson (Sheriff Jack Carter) and co-creator Jaime Paglia. Details.
Jericho - One winner from every one who writes in "Jericho" will receive the Cheyenne Flag which flew over Camp Liberty in the Season One Finale, signed by the writers and possibly some cast. In addition, the winner will also receive a final production script of episode 22, Why We Fight signed by writers Carol Barbee and Jon Steinberg, which includes the word that launched 20 tons of peanuts and saved a show, "Nuts!" Details.
Joss Whedon - Joss has promised a call for a lucky winner. "I'm warning you, I'm gonna call late, and probably drunk, and maybe cry. It's gonna be so cool." He's also planning to line up some stars to do the same. Details.
Lost
- Showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are offering three prizes, to be raffled off at random among pencil-box buyers who write in "Lost":
GRAND PRIZE: A personal thank-you call from Carlton, Damon, and Matthew Fox where "we shall do our bestest to answer your questions about the show's mysteries AND a Season 3 DVD set."
FIRST PRIZE: A signed finale script by writers Damon and Carlton and a surprise cast member!
SECOND PRIZE: Signed Season 3 DVD Set (standard and blu-ray!) by the entire writing staff! Details.
Smallville - UPDATED! Creators Alfred Gough & Miles Millar have upped the ante. List "Smallville" as the show you're supporting and the winners will get a phone call from Michael (Lex) Rosenbaum, Erica (Lois) Durance or Laura (Kara/Supergirl) Vandervoort. Details.
